GIMP INSTALLATION OR "HELLO RED LINE!"

To install GIMP, start the downloaded gtk+-2.8.9-setup.exe. Accept the defaults. It's a very easy installation. If you like, you can choose to install GIMP in any of (non default) several languages.

After this (remember that we are using Windows), run the gimp-2.2.10.i586-setup.exe. Accept the defaults but, like Blender creates for textures files having the extension .TGA, in the "Select file associations" window select TrueVision Targa - we can, and will, use .JPG files for Blender and Croquet. Details, soon.

Installed GIMP, when you run it, you will see its little Main Window:

Select File | New and OK in the new window. Appears the Image Window.

A brush is selected by default in the Tool Bar of the Main Window. Try to design "Hello World!" in the Image Window:

Very good! Something a little more dificult is to paint an straight line, red.

Select the color:

And:

WOW! You will have a red line.

We did this exercice only to test if your GIMP is well installed. But we will not present basic tutorials about GIMP. We will present the use of GIMP in some exercices with Blender, for textures creation. (We will present basic tutorials about Blender, a not so easy tool, of course).

There are the GIMP User Manual available in several languages.

You can find some tutorials at the official GIMP site

And don't forget that you can make a "Google" search using: GIMP TUTORIALS (543 pages found).
