DOWNLOADS AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

First of all you need to download the beta version of Croquet:

IMPORTANT ADENDUM: Like the oficial beta version is not available anymore, download OUR customized version:

Croquet runs on all major platforms (Windows, MacOS, Linux). We will use Windows in this tutorials serie.

For video card you need a minimum of 32 MB of memory with hardware/driver support for stencil buffers and at least 16 bit depth buffer (32 bits better) while under OpenGL 1.3 and higher.

Like it's not easy to understand these misterious things and it's possible that you are not able to determine whether this is your case, better to upgrade your video card to 64 MB.

Microsoft has distributed graphics drivers that can sometimes disable graphics hardware acceleration when used with OpenGL. Reinstalling the manufacturer's driver will often fix these problems.

In order to run applications that use spatialized sound, you must also install OpenAL. Some PC (Windows) sound cards came with an OpenAL driver as well. If you need to install OpenAL, download the Windows installer from

After the unzip of the universal.zip file downloaded, in the "C" disk, you need to open the folder "bin" and run: Croquet exe.

If you double-click on the .exe it will automatically find an .image file to use. If there is only one .image file, it will use that without asking. If there are multiple .image files in your computer (from a previous Squeak or Croquet installation), you will be prompted to select one.

TIP: You can also arrange for Windows to use the .exe whenever you double-click on the .image file. The way to do this is to double-click on the .image file, browse for the .exe, and click "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file."

If all is OK, you will see:

and can begin to play with Croquet.

Read the manual "Croquet Programming" that is in the folder. Some parts are basic and you will understand. Some not...
