If you are using the Chat Server from www.pelicancrosssing.com, available only for tests, you will see the disgusting warning :
In the "SGAG Template" there are three parameters to define the Chat Server, used for control of the movements of the avatares and the chat.
'EXTERNAL_IP_ADDRESS="xmpp.pelicancrossing.com";'+ 'ROOM_NAME="DMUroom";'+ 'SERVER_NAME="chatterbox";'+
But this Chat Server is property of the company Pelican Crossing, creators of the software Blink3D, used by SGAG. It can be used only for tests and its performance can be not very good. So, you need to install in your computer a Chat Server. IT'S FREE!
Important to know first that any computer connected to the Internet has something whose name is IP Address. If your computer is under a Local Area Network (universities, companies etc.) or even under a private WiFi network, your computer will have an Internal IP Address. If you are using a commercial ADSL or a cable connection you have a direct connection with the Internet using an External IP Address.You need an External IP Address to install a Chat Server for SGAG!. It's possible to have it even if you are under a Local Area Network or WiFi network but is not so easy to define it (talk to your Network Administrator).
The IP Address is a number(?) having four parts. Someting like: 200.207.125.23.
To know what is your IP Address now is easy. Open the black "Prompt of command" window (the DOS window) and type:
ipconfig
Will appear the IP Address that you have at this moment.
Try it at some other Internet sessions. If allways the IP Address is the same, you have a "fixed" External IP Address
If you don't have one, you will need to find what is your IP Address at each session.
Like we said, you need to have the Chat Server running for the coordination of the avatares movements and to have chat in the SGAG space.
One idea is to mantain your computer always ON and running the Chat Server application.
But another (not so good) option is: when you set on your computer, find your IP Address at the moment and change the Chat Server parameters at the Chat Server application (look below to know how to do it) and go to the SGAG Template of your SGAG Gallery and change the parameters EXTERNAL_IP_ADDRESS and SERVER_NAME. And mantain running your Chat Server application by the time you like to have chat at your SGAG gallery.
Let's go to present 10 steps for the installation and customization of the free Chat Server. If you have a "fixed" IP Address you need to do this only one time:
Step 1 - We will use the free server WildFire 3.1.1 that you can download/execute clicking here:
Step 2 - At the end of the installation, you choose to launch it. And will see:
Click "Launch Admin".
Step 3 - The first page of the Setup is a "Language Selection". Our sugestion: accept "English".
Step 4 - Click "Server Settings". Here you have something very important! You need to change the "Domain" to your External IP Address . Like we said, if you have a "fixed" IP Address you need to do this only one time but, if your IP Address is not "Fixed", you need to change this when you are going to run the Chat Server.
Step 5 - At the left part of the page of the Setup you have many titles. Some you need not to use. Click "Admin Account" and type your email and the password you like to have. Your username will be "admin".
Step 6 - To open the Admnistration Console you need to use these definitions:
Step 7 - You can open parts of the Administration Console. You don't need to change anything. Do not change the "Group chat service name". It needs to be:"conference".
Step 8 - In the "Plugins" part you can choose some plugins for your server. Look our choice:
Step 9 - Back to "Server | Server Settings" you can "Edit Server Properties" and verify that the "client port" is 5222. If you have a FireWall you need to liberate this port!! . Save these properties.
Step 10 - Now you need to Stop and Quit the Wildfire Server. After this, run it again. You need to verify if the IP Address has changed and it's your IP Address and not 127.0.0.l.
If all is OK, you have your Chat Server working.
The final part is to change the parameters in the "SGAG Template" of your "SGAG Gallery". The SERVER_NAME will have the same value of the EXTERNAL_IP_ADDRESS. You will have something like, by example:
'EXTERNAL_IP_ADDRESS="200.207.125.23";'+ 'ROOM_NAME="JFK002";'+ 'SERVER_NAME="200.207.125.23";'+
That's all.
