BASIC MODELING - PART 1

For modeling of an "SGAG external" we will use combinations of primitive meshes. To add a primitive we select Add | Mesh in the superior bar. We have 10 primitives:

At any "SGAG block" we have a positional point and a positional axis. It's important to know that the position 0,0,0 of Blender will be the positional point and the positional axis is that going from this point to up.

You can add a primitive at a defined position of the Grid. By example, to add a Cube in the central position.

1 - Zoom of the the Top View (The Perspective View has some limitation in zooming).

2 - In the Top View, click in the central point. Appears the axes.

3 - Select Add | Mesh | Cube in the superior bar:

Normally we do an SGAG external using many primitives until we have a final model: an sculpture, a wall having a customized texture etc.

For each of these primitives we do many operations like:

At this lesson we will talk about some deformations. But, first of all: some other basic concepts.

At the bar of each View we have the options: Object Mode, Edit Mode, UV Face Select.

To select an object we need to be at Object Mode and rightclick it. Appears a violet aura.

To select many objects press "Shift" with the rightclicks.

To deselect all press "A".

TIP: To erase an object selected, press the "Delete" keyboardkey.

To move objects: selected the object, press "G" (grab), move the pointer over the View you like.

IMPORTANT: Different of the usual Windows behavior, to "focus" a View you don't need to click it. Only the pointer needs to be over it.

If the object is selected we can move it also at Edit Mode.

To stop the movements, liberating the objects: click.

Now, the deformations. Imagine that, having the 200x200x200 Cube, we would like to create a paralelogram, at any position, having the dimensions:

1200 in the direction West-East (WE);

700 for Up;

100 in the direction South-North (SN).

The idea is to move - pull or push - faces selected of the basic Cube.

To move something we need first to select. To select a face you need to be at Edit Mode and click the button "Face select mode". Look the figure:

At each face appears a black point. Rightclick the face to select it. It will have a violet color.

REMEMBER: To deselect all: "A".

Like our paralelogram will have "SN" equal 100, we will push the South face of the Cube. Sometimes the Perspective View is the best to do selections; sometimes to rightclick the edge at some other View.

To move a face we select it, and pressing "G", we move the pointer at some View. Here the Top View is the best to do the movement.

To stop the movement: click!

IMPORTANT TIP: To "Undo" a wrong movement at Edit Mode press "U". You can view a list of previous operations pressing "Alt" + U. Appears a popup menu. Click the operation you would like to return.

To "Redo" click "Shift" + U.

TIP: A popup menu in Blender appears where the pointer is. To disapear, move the cursor out of it and wait a little.

To do "Up" equal 700, we select the top face and pull (pressing "G" etc.) it at the Front View.

To stop the movement: click!

And to do "WE" equal 1200, we select the East face. We can use the Top or Front View to do the movement.

To stop the movement: click!

And we have our paralelogram.

This is only an exercice of modeling. At the "real life" we need to do more: Save, Export etc. etc.

At the next lesson we will learn some other deformations.
